The Vietnam War Dog Team Memorial. It’s titled “The Unbreakable Bond”.
Unfortunately, toward the end of the Vietnam War the government deemed these K-9 Soldiers as excess military property. Around 2,000, Dogs were euthanized in country, which means in Vietnam. This was a travesty. This memorial is dedicated to all the Dog Teams that served during the Vietnam War. These loyal, brave and faithful dogs had fought just as their handlers had fought. They just had four legs instead of two. The sculpture was created from a photograph taken in Vietnam in 1971 of SP4 Ed Reeves and his Scout dog Prince 986A. The wall contains 4,244 dog names and tattoo numbers of dogs that served in Vietnam. The middle panel has 300 names, 297 handlers, one veterinarian and two vet tech that lost their lives in Vietnam. The black granite stone was quarried out of the same quarry in India that the Vietnam Wall in Washington DC was. The Memorial was dedicated on September the 28th 2019. The Museum will continue to tell the story of the Vietnam War Dogs. Their story needs to be told, so they will not be forgotten. If you would like to learn more about these brave lifesaving K9’s, please visit the Museum. The Museum does have supplies on site available if anyone visiting would like a rubbing of a name on the Memorial.
